Pramono Offers Condolences After Toddler Dies Falling into Jakarta Park Project Hole

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has confirmed that the excavation project where a four-year-old boy, identified as I, died after falling in was initiated by the Jakarta Provincial Government. The project involves the construction of a park managed through a corporate social responsibility (CSR) scheme. “It is indeed a project initiated by the DKI Jakarta Government for a park,” Pramono said in Kota Tua, West Jakarta, on Monday. Pramono explained that according to reports, the victim had accompanied his mother, who was selling tea in the Manggarai area. The incident occurred just before midnight. “The child was accompanying his mother selling tea in Manggarai. It was almost 12 at night, around 11.50pm,” he said. According to Pramono, the victim entered the project area, which was supposed to be closed off, and fell into a hole intended for casting concrete. “The child went to play in an area that was actually closed off, and inside that closed area there was a hole, a hole for casting at the site,” he stated. The victim was evacuated by personnel from the Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat), but his life could not be saved. “The child entered that place and subsequently died after being evacuated by Gulkarmat,” he said. Following the incident, Pramono expressed his grief and has ordered the Jakarta administration to provide full assistance to the victim’s family. “The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is deeply saddened and feels the loss. That very night, I ordered full support to be given to the family, including covering all expenses, which have been fully borne by the DKI Jakarta Government,” he said. Pramono also stated that his administration would not stand in the way if the family wishes to pursue legal action regarding the incident. “If the family decides to press charges, we welcome it because this incident was truly unexpected,” he explained. He added that he has instructed the sub-district head, ward head, and other relevant officials to accompany the family from the beginning of the incident through to the burial process. “I have ordered the sub-district head, ward head, and others to be involved until the burial,” he said. The incident was reported to have occurred on Saturday night. The victim was initially playing with a friend when he slipped into the hole. “The incident began when the victim was playing and unknowingly went under a zinc barrier and ran into the park construction area. While running, the victim fell into the hole,” stated a report from the Fire Department Command Center on Sunday. The family immediately reported the incident at 00.02 WIB. Officers began evacuating the victim at 00.15 WIB. “The victim’s family then reported it to the Matraman Fire Department. The information was immediately relayed to SCC 41 and promptly followed up,” the report clarified. The evacuation was completed at 03.40 WIB. The victim was then immediately taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) in Central Jakarta.
