Pramono offers condolences after child falls into Tebet project hole

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has expressed his condolences following the death of a child, identified by the initials I (4), after falling into a construction pit for a multi-purpose field project on Jalan Manggarai Utara, Tebet, South Jakarta.

The child was trapped for approximately four hours during the early hours of Sunday (28/6) before being evacuated; however, they were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

“The Jakarta Provincial Government certainly feels deep sorrow and loss,” Pramono stated when met in West Jakarta on Monday.

Pramono explained that on Saturday night (27/6), the child was accompanying their mother, who was selling tea in the Manggarai area, until the early hours of Sunday.

The Governor noted that the child subsequently wandered into an area that should have been closed, as it contained a pit intended for concreting.

“This is a project initiated by the Jakarta Provincial Government for park development. It is a park space managed through CSR, but the child entered the site. Tragically, the child passed away after being evacuated by the Fire and Rescue Department (Gulkarmat),” Pramono explained.

During the early hours of Sunday, Pramono immediately ordered his subordinates to provide assistance to the victim’s family.

“We have been involved from the beginning, and I have instructed the sub-district head, the village head, and others to assist through to the burial,” said Pramono.

Pramono further stated that the victim’s family is free to pursue legal action regarding the incident.

“If the family chooses to pursue legal prosecution, we will allow it, as this incident was truly unexpected,” Pramono added.
