Pramono notes Jakarta ranks 140th in Global Cities Index 2026
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo stated that Jakarta occupies the 140th position out of 1,000 cities worldwide in the Global Cities Index 2026 released by Oxford Economics.
“Oxford Economics released the results for one thousand cities in the world just a few days ago, including the rankings. I would like to report on Jakarta first. In 2024, Jakarta was ranked 287th out of one thousand cities. In 2025, it rose to 159th. In 2026, Alhamdulillah, Jakarta is now number 140 out of one thousand cities in the world,” Pramono explained while attending the 2026 Provincial Jakarta National Transportation Day event in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on Tuesday.
Within Indonesia, he continued, Jakarta holds the top position, followed by Surabaya, Medan, and Bandung.
According to Pramono, one of the most critical factors in this assessment relates to public transportation. This achievement signifies that public transport in Jakarta has progressively improved.
“Alhamdulillah, the connectivity of public transport in Jakarta is now over 93 per cent. I have received reports that the MRT, LRT, Transjakarta, Transjabodetabek, Mikrotrans, and JakLingko have seen an increase in passengers shifting from private vehicles to public transport. The average increase is more than 15 per cent. This shows that Jakarta’s transportation has undergone significant improvement,” he elaborated.
Pramono believes that public transport ridership will soar further once the Jakarta LRT is extended to Dukuh Atas, JIS, and the Whoosh Halim Station.
