Pramono: New Public Transport Tariffs in Jakarta to be Discussed Soon
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has stated that the regional government will soon discuss new public transport tariffs in Jakarta and its surrounding areas. The proposed adjustment to public transport fares in the capital was put forward by the Jakarta City Transport Council (DTKJ).
Pramono said he would review the proposed fare changes as they are linked to the Jakarta Regional Budget (APBD). “It is currently in the stage of APBD discussions with the DKI Jakarta Provincial DPRD,” Pramono told reporters while attending the closing ceremony of a free mass circumcision event at DKI Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday, 8 July 2026.
The DKI Provincial Government, he said, will study and recalculate the subsidy scheme or financing for public transport in Jakarta. “In the coming weeks, we will immediately recalculate.”
According to Pramono, the decision regarding fare changes for Transjakarta, Transjabodetabek, and Mikrotrans must consider the matter of subsidies or government assistance budgets.
The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle politician stated that any increase in public transport fares would not target the 15 community groups entitled to free public transport facilities.
The list of these 15 groups includes DKI Jakarta Provincial Government civil servants and their pensioners, contract workers employed by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, students receiving the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP), certain private sector employees or workers earning wages in accordance with the Provincial Minimum Wage through Bank DKI, residents of low-cost rental flats (Rusunawa), and the Family Welfare and Empowerment mobilisation team (PKK).
Additionally, the list includes residents holding Kepulauan Seribu identity cards who are recipients of Prosperous Family Rice (Raskin) and domiciled in Jabodetabek, members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri), veterans, persons with disabilities, elderly residents over 60 years of age, mosque caretakers (marbot), educators and education staff at Early Childhood Education (PAUD) institutions, and mosquito larvae monitors (Jumantik).
Pramono stated that the government will soon decide on the fare increase by considering its impact on the public. “The Deputy Governor and I will certainly consider what is best for our community.”
