Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo believes that the national defence programme, attended by dozens of students in barracks, is an excellent initiative to help students appreciate and love their own country.

“In my view, why is this programme good? It is to make students, in particular, more appreciative and affectionate towards their own nation,” Pramono stated after inspecting the construction of a Single Use Junction Tunnel (SJUT) on Jalan Soepomo, Tebet, South Jakarta, on Thursday.

Pramono noted that the national defence programme is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Defence and the Metro Jaya Regional Police.

According to him, the programme participants originate not only from Jakarta but also from surrounding areas, including Tangerang, Bekasi, South Tangerang, Bogor, and Depok.

He explained that initially, 29 students from Jakarta were dispatched to participate in the programme, though ultimately 27 students took part.

He noted that the two agencies are the parties responsible for executing the national defence training programme.

“Regarding the specific details of the programme, since it is being conducted by the Ministry of Defence and the Metro Jaya Regional Police, please direct your enquiries to the agencies conducting the education,” Pramono said.

Previously, the Head of the Jakarta Education Office, Nahdiana, stated that 20 students from Jakarta participated in the national defence briefing at barracks in the Citeureup area, Bogor Regency.

The programme was established by the Metro Jaya Regional Police through the Directorate of Protection of Women and Children (PPA-PPO).

Nahdiana mentioned that the 29 students were minors who had previously been caught up by the Metro Jaya Regional Police’s PPA-PPO Directorate during demonstrations on 27 August 2026.
