Pramono Meets Kelantan Chief Minister, Discusses Investments to Flight Routes
Pramono conveyed this after receiving a visit from the Chief Minister of the State of Kelantan, Dato’ Panglima Perang Ustaz Dato’ Hj. Mohd Nassuruddin bin Hj. Daud, at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (13/5/2026). “In our discussion earlier with Ustaz Dato’, we talked about several matters, particularly those related to bilateral relations between Jakarta and Kelantan,” said Pramono at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (13/5/2026). Pramono stated that one of the main topics was the plan for direct flights from Kelantan to Jakarta, which will commence on 16 June 2026. According to him, this connectivity can open new opportunities for mobility between the two regions. “Regarding the direct flights from Kelantan to Jakarta. Naturally, Jakarta will become a new destination for Kelantan residents as well as Jakarta residents heading to Kelantan,” he said. Pramono assessed that Jakarta is a large market with a population of around 11 million people, or 42 million if including the agglomeration area. On the other hand, Kelantan is noted for its strengths in the healthcare services sector. “So far, Jakarta residents going to Malaysia typically head to Penang; perhaps Kelantan could become a new alternative,” he remarked. Beyond healthcare and tourism, Pramono mentioned that both parties also discussed developing cultural cooperation. One aspect involves exploring ancient Malay manuscripts, which are seen to have historical connections between Jakarta and Kelantan. “However, we are also opening cooperation to develop and explore ancient Malay manuscripts between Jakarta and Kelantan. Because both have extraordinary resources,” he said. In addition, the DKI Provincial Government is opening opportunities for collaboration in investment and education. “Other cooperations, particularly in investment, culture, and education, we are open to working with Kelantan,” he added. Meanwhile, Dato’ Mohd Nassuruddin stated that his side came to Jakarta to promote Kelantan ahead of the opening of direct flights from Kota Bharu to Jakarta on 16 June. He also promoted various potentials of Kelantan, from religious tourism, culture, and cuisine to health tourism, which is said to be more affordable compared to several other cities in Malaysia. “Kelantan is famous as the Verandah of Mecca. There are many pesantrens and Islamic boarding schools that have existed since long ago,” said Nassuruddin.
