Pramono: LRT Velodrome-Manggarai Development Prioritises Safety
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has reaffirmed that the construction of LRT Jakarta Phase 1B on the Velodrome-Manggarai route prioritises safety, even though it is targeted for full operation in August. “Safety for the LRT and MRT is the top priority. Although it is being expedited, it is not truly rushed, as it must be completed and fully operational by August. That has indeed been established,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday. Currently, testing on the route has begun, ensuring the LRT will be safe for public use. “During testing, aspects such as the number of train sets and headway are being evaluated, which is what is happening now. I hope that once it is inaugurated in August, it will operate fully,” Pramono explained. It is known that the construction of LRT Jakarta Phase 1B on the Velodrome-Manggarai route began in October 2023. Phase 1B is a continuation of Phase 1A (Pegangsaan Dua - Velodrome), making the total route span 12.2 km from Pegangsaan Dua to Manggarai. The route features five new stations: Rawamangun, Pramuka BPKP, Pasar Pramuka, Matraman, and ending at Manggarai Station. These stations will integrate LRT Jakarta with the KRL Commuter Line and long-distance trains. As of early May 2026, physical construction has reached more than 91 percent, with testing of the first segment conducted on 30 April 2026.
