Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung joked while reminding the ranks of the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) to remain humanistic when performing their duties in the field. Pramono requested that Satpol PP personnel be able to exercise self-restraint when facing citizens.

This was stated by Pramono while attending the 76th anniversary of Satpol PP and the 64th anniversary of Satlinmas at Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM), Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (8/9/2026). Pramono noted that Satpol PP personnel frequently encounter situations that can trigger emotions.

“The video shown earlier demonstrated that any member of the Satpol PP can become emotional, angry, or offended by small matters,” said Pramono.

Pramono reminded the Satpol PP to continue prioritising a humanistic approach when dealing with the community. According to him, such an attitude is important because the Satpol PP serves as one of the faces of Jakarta.

“Because you are currently assigned to the front line to guard the face of Jakarta, you all must be able to restrain yourselves. At the very least, learn from your Governor,” he said.

Pramono then joked about his own method of dealing with people who mock him. “Even though sometimes I am mocked by people, I just keep smiling,” he said.

Nevertheless, Pramono emphasised that a calm attitude does not mean abandoning firmness in decision-making.

“Even though I am smiling, whatever the desire, goal, and necessity is, we will still proceed with the decision,” he added.

Pramono expressed his appreciation for the changing image of the Jakarta Satpol PP, which he believes is now much more humanistic. Pramono assessed that a humanistic approach must go hand in hand with firmness.

“If you all can navigate this and subsequently become more humanistic, yet remain firm, orderly, and authoritative, I am confident the face of Jakarta will undergo a total transformation,” he remarked.

Pramono cited the enforcement actions on Jalan HR Rasuna Said, South Jakarta, as an example. In his view, the Satpol PP was able to regulate the presence of ‘Pak Ogah’ (unauthorised traffic attendants) without losing a humanistic approach.

“Once order is established, everyone asks, ‘Why couldn’t it be regulated like that before?’. This serves as an example,” he explained.

Pramono believes that increasing public trust in the Satpol PP is an important asset for Jakarta as a global city. He noted that the face of Jakarta is determined not only by physical development but also by the sense of safety, comfort, and order felt by the community.
