Pramono: Jakarta’s rainfall is very heavy; flooding could come from Bogor and Tangerang

Jakarta, Kompas.com — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said that rainfall in Jakarta on Sunday (8 March 2026) was very high, reaching 264 mm per day. ‘Today in Jakarta and its surroundings the rainfall is 264 mm per day. That is extremely, extremely, extremely high rainfall,’ Pramono said at Bundaran HI, Central Jakarta. He added that since Saturday night (7 March 2026) he has been coordinating with relevant agencies, especially the Water Resources Service (SDA), to pump at various points. Pramono also warned residents about floodwaters from areas around Jakarta, such as Bogor and Tangerang. ‘Because above all, in Bogor, in Tangerang and so on, rainfall is also high, there will surely be water flowing to Jakarta,’ he said. He added that as many as 1,200 pumps, including portable pumps, have been prepared. Critical pumping points include Daan Mogot in West Jakarta and Jalan DI Pandjaitan in East Jakarta. Pumping since Sunday morning has kept traffic at the two points flowing smoothly despite the inundation. Earlier, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded 39 RTs and 13 roads in DKI Jakarta flooded on Sunday (8 March 2026). Head of BPBD Jakarta’s Data and Information Centre, Mohammad Yohan, said heavy rain from Saturday to Sunday was the cause. ‘The cause is heavy rain that hit the DKI Jakarta area and surroundings from Saturday (7 March 2026) to Sunday,’ Yohan said in a written statement, Sunday.
