Pramono: Jakarta’s Poverty Rate Falls Below 4% for the First Time
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the proportion of the capital’s population living in poverty had fallen below 4%. As of March 2026, Jakarta’s poverty rate stood at 3.96%.
Pramono made the remarks while presenting the realisation of Jakarta’s 2026 regional budget for the third quarter at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (21 October 2026). The poverty rate had previously been 4.03%, meaning it fell by 0.07 percentage points to 3.96%.
“Thankfully, in March, for the first time Jakarta’s percentage of people living in poverty fell below 4%, to 3.96%,” Pramono said.
Pramono said several indicators related to poverty and employment opportunities in Jakarta had also improved, including the open unemployment rate.
The unemployment rate had previously reached 6.03%. It fell by 0.24 percentage points to 5.79%.
Meanwhile, Jakarta’s labour force participation rate reached 66.05%, up 0.57 percentage points compared with February 2026.
Pramono said the improvement in these indicators needed to be supported by optimism and government efforts to expand employment opportunities. The Jakarta Provincial Government is running a Mobile Training Unit programme to improve the skills of prospective workers.
The programme is being delivered in co-operation with around 214 companies. Training covers a range of fields, including make-up, hairdressing, sewing and foreign languages.
Pramono said language training was among the programmes popular with the public, as language skills are one of the requirements for residents seeking work overseas.
“To prepare Jakarta’s workforce, the Jakarta Provincial Government has introduced what is known as the Mobile Training Unit,” he said.
He cited the provincial government’s previous placement of a number of workers from Jakarta in jobs overseas, including in Germany and Japan. Before leaving, prospective workers received language training.
Pramono said he hoped skills development and efforts to expand employment opportunities would continue to improve the social and economic conditions of Jakarta residents.
