Pramono: Jakarta Remains the Capital, All Activities Still Use DKI Status
JAKARTA - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has emphasised that Jakarta remains the status of the national capital to this day. Therefore, all government activities in Jakarta continue to use the DKI status. “That is why, up to today, all activities in DKI Jakarta still use the DKI designation,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (13/5/2026). Pramono stated that the use of DKI Jakarta status in all government activities will continue until a presidential decision on the capital relocation is issued. “I fully understand and know that, as long as there is no presidential decision on the relocation, the capital remains in DKI Jakarta,” Pramono said. According to Pramono, the Constitutional Court decision merely reaffirms the condition that has been in place in Jakarta. From the perspective of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, the national capital status still attaches to Jakarta until a presidential decision on the relocation to IKN is issued. Pramono also noted that the central government still uses Jakarta’s status as the national capital because there has been no presidential decision on the relocation. “Meanwhile, the central government itself is the same as the DKI Jakarta Government in using the term DKI as still the capital until there is a presidential decision on the relocation,” Pramono said. The decision was read by MK Chief Justice Suhartoyo in the hearing of Case Number 71/PUU-XXIV/2026 at the MK Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday (12/5/2026). “Rejecting the applicant’s petition in its entirety,” said Suhartoyo, quoted from the official Mahkamah Konstitusi YouTube channel. In its considerations, Constitutional Court Justice Guntur Hamzah emphasised that Jakarta remains legally the national capital as long as the presidential decree on relocating the capital to IKN has not been issued. “As long as the presidential decision regarding the relocation of the National Capital from the Special Capital Region of Jakarta Province to the Nusantara Capital has not been established, the National Capital still remains located in Jakarta,” Guntur stated.
