Pramono: Jakarta Has 37 School Buses for Students with Disabilities
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the provincial government had provided 37 school buses for children with special needs as part of its public services for them.
“We have prepared 37 disability-friendly school buses. They are exclusively for people with disabilities, not for the general public, and I am sure perhaps someone in this room has used them. There are 10 routes for children from families with disabilities,” Pramono said in a speech at the Spekix event in Senayan, Jakarta, on Saturday.
He said that under Jakarta Regional Regulation No. 4 of 2022, people with disabilities must be protected and their rights fulfilled.
“Under the existing Jakarta governor’s regulation, No. 4 of 2022, the city should provide adequate space and facilities for these children,” Pramono said.
In his view, Jakarta offers Indonesia’s most inclusive and equitable education for children with special needs.
“There are now 88 special-needs schools: 13 state-run and 75 privately run,” he said.
Through the Jakarta Excellent Student Card (KJMU) programme, the Jakarta provincial government has opened up opportunities for people with disabilities to pursue education through to the highest levels.
“If these children want to study for a bachelor’s degree, or even a master’s or doctorate, the Jakarta government has KJMU, the Jakarta Excellent Student Card,” he said.
The government has also sent 120 children with disabilities, together with their parents and coaches, to Kupang for an Olympics for children with special needs.
“My message is simple: give these children the opportunity to show what they can do and make their parents, families and, of course, Jakarta proud,” he added.
