Pramono: Jakarta backs Government's crackdown on online gambling
Jakarta’s Provincial Government has expressed full support for the central government’s intensified crackdown on online gambling (judol). The step is taken as a rejection of practices deemed to harm and ensnare members of the public.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated the provincial government stands ready to participate in the efforts to counter the proliferation of judol. He said several measures and coordination with regional work units (ODP) would be undertaken to support the commitment.
‘So if earlier I will call on the relevant OPD, Satpol PP, to screen this. If it is indeed true, actions will be taken immediately, because Jakarta supports the Government to wage war against judol,’ he said on Friday, 6 March 2026.
Pramono explained that online gambling has proliferated and had negative impacts on society, including in Jakarta. He said illicit activities often trap residents economically and socially.
‘Because judol is what then makes many residents, anywhere including in Jakarta, who are then entangled, life will not be good and that has been everywhere,’ he added.
He stressed that the Jakarta Provincial Government is ready to cooperate with the central government in efforts to curb online gambling.
‘Thus if there are programs from the government to cut off judol, Jakarta supports it a thousand percent,’ he asserted.
Through this support, the local authorities hope that efforts to tackle online gambling can be more effective and help create a better life for Jakarta residents.
