Pramono Issues Governor's Instruction, Jakarta Residents Required to Sort Waste

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has officially issued Governor’s Instruction (Ingub) Number 5 of 2026 on the Waste Sorting and Processing Movement from the Source. Through this policy, all Jakarta residents are required to sort waste directly from their respective households. “I have signed the Governor’s Instruction for the waste sorting process, and in the near future we will collaborate with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry for the declaration of waste sorting in Jakarta,” said Pramono at Jakarta City Hall on Monday (4/5/2026). Pramono stated that waste sorting practices have actually been running in several areas, one of which is in Rorotan Ward, Cilincing Subdistrict, North Jakarta. That experience serves as the basis for the provincial government to expand similar movements throughout Jakarta. According to Pramono, the Ingub signed on 30 April 2026 is intended to make the waste sorting movement more massive. The Jakarta Provincial Government targets the implementation of this movement to start running next week across all administrative cities. “Hopefully next week this movement becomes a massive effort carried out by all administrative cities in Jakarta,” said Pramono. In a copy of the Ingub received by Republika, the regulation is addressed to the Regional Secretary to the lurahs in Jakarta. They are mandated to mobilise the community while ensuring that the source-based waste management system runs effectively at the regional level.
