JAKARTA – Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has reiterated his warning to state civil apparatus (ASN) within the Jakarta Provincial Government against practising polygamy.

The statement was made by Pramono whilst attending a breaking-of-fast event with community leaders and residents of West Jakarta at the Cengkareng Barat Sports Hall on Monday, 16 March 2026.

Initially, Pramono offered prayers to the attendees, hoping those without partners would soon find one. He also made lighthearted remarks to several attending officials regarding their spouses.

“I pray that those who do not yet have a partner will soon find one. Those who already have a partner should not get another one,” said Pramono, prompting laughter from the audience.

He continued playfully, addressing some officials present: “It should be enough if I, Mr Erwin (Erwin Aksa, Member of Parliament), and Mr Inggard (Chairman of Commission A of Jakarta’s Regional Parliament) each have one. One should be sufficient, shouldn’t it Mr Erwin?”

However, Pramono then made a firm statement prohibiting polygamy among Jakarta Provincial Government staff. He made clear that he would show no mercy in dismissing any official engaged in polygamous practices.

“Including in Jakarta, if there is any ASN who dares to have more than one, I will definitely cross them out,” he stated firmly.

The former cabinet secretary’s remarks were met with cheers and laughter from the residents attending the breaking-of-fast event.

During the occasion, Pramono also conveyed that the atmosphere in Jakarta during Ramadan through to the approach of Eid al-Fitr has remained safe and conducive.

It is worth noting that the Jakarta Provincial Government had previously issued regulations regarding marriage and divorce permissions for civil servants. This regulation is outlined in the Governor’s Regulation (Pergub) Number 2 of 2025, issued by Jakarta’s Acting Governor Teguh Setyabudi on 6 January 2025.
