The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta has expressed its full commitment to continuously supporting the organisation of various sports activities in public spaces. Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, stressed that this measure is taken to improve the quality of life of residents while strengthening Jakarta’s position as a healthy, active, and inclusive global city for all sports communities. Pramono made the statement while attending the Gen Coop Run 5K Fun Run in conjunction with the 79th Cooperative Day at the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs office on Jalan H.R. Rasuna Said, Setiabudi, South Jakarta, on Sunday (19/7). Pramono stated that the more sports activities are held in public spaces, the greater the public participation in adopting a healthy lifestyle. He noted that the Gen Coop Run is a milestone as it is the first activity organised by a ministry or institution on Jalan H.R. Rasuna Said since the area implemented a Car Free Day. ‘This is the first official event held by a ministry or institution on Jalan Rasuna Said after the Car Free Day was established. Hopefully, collaborations like this will make the ministry, institutions, and Jakarta more vibrant. Now, more people are utilising this area for exercise to live healthier,’ Pramono said. He emphasised that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will continue to improve the quality of public spaces and sports facilities to make them more comfortable, safe, and accessible. This initiative is part of the strategy to turn Jakarta into a city that is friendly to all sports communities. ‘We want Jakarta to be a city that is friendly to runners, pedestrians, cyclists, and all sports communities,’ he stated. Pramono added that sports activities also serve as a means to strengthen social interaction. According to him, the Gen Coop Run demonstrates that cooperatives not only play a role in driving the economy but are also capable of building a culture of healthy living and strengthening community togetherness. ‘This activity proves that cooperatives not only drive the economy but are also capable of building a healthy lifestyle and strengthening community togetherness,’ he concluded.
