Pramono Invites Community Organisations to Work Together on Jakarta’s Environmental Problems
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has opened the door to collaboration with community organisations to tackle environmental problems in the capital, including through clean-up activities along the city’s rivers.
Pramono made the remarks at the inauguration of the DKI Jakarta regional board of the 234 Solidarity Community (234 SC) at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday (20 October 2026).
Pramono welcomed the spirit of solidarity and mutual cooperation fostered by community organisations, saying these values could help the government address various problems in Jakarta.
He said the Jakarta Provincial Government was open to working with different organisations on activities that directly benefit the public.
“Once again, the Jakarta Provincial Government is open to working with Alvin and all of you,” Pramono said.
Pramono also referred to an offer from Japto Soerjosoemarno, chairman of the National Leadership Council of Pemuda Pancasila, to cooperate on cleaning Jakarta’s rivers.
He said collaboration among different sections of society could support the government’s efforts to address environmental problems in the capital.
“Earlier, Mr Japto also offered to work together on cleaning up Jakarta’s rivers,” he said.
Pramono said he hoped cooperation between the government and community organisations would continue to grow, so that it could have a positive impact on Jakarta residents.
“I am grateful that this sense of togetherness makes us stronger,” he said.
Alongside environmental cooperation, Pramono stressed the importance of solidarity, mutual assistance and concern for others in running an organisation. He also said discipline and transparency were essential to building public trust.
Pramono cited working practices at City Hall, including ensuring that meetings and government activities began on time.
“When I became governor, meetings were never on time. I made punctuality the rule for everything at City Hall,” he said.
Meanwhile, Alvin Febryan, head of the 234 SC DKI Jakarta regional board, said the organisation was ready to act on Pramono’s message about the importance of collaboration and synergy to make a difference for the public.
Alvin said one proposal under consideration was a river-cleaning activity involving several community organisations, including Forum Betawi Rempug (FBR), Forum Komunikasi Anak Betawi (Forkabi) and Pemuda Pancasila.
“The Governor’s message was that we must continue to collaborate and work in synergy to make an impact on the public. The chairman of Pemuda Pancasila, Mr Japto, said the same,” Alvin said.
He said the proposal would be discussed further with the regional government.
In addition to environmental activities, 234 SC DKI Jakarta plans to introduce social programmes, including building a clinic, providing free ambulances and establishing educational facilities for people in need.
Alvin said he hoped the education programme would reach children who lacked access to learning, including those living beneath bridges. Teachers would be drawn from 234 SC DKI Jakarta volunteers.
“The teachers will also come from 234 SC DKI volunteers,” he said.
In the youth sector, Alvin also plans to organise a Jakarta-wide boxing competition. The programme is intended to encourage young people to channel their energy into positive activities such as boxing and mixed martial arts (MMA), while helping to prevent street brawls.
