Pramono Instructs Jakarta Officials to Maintain Conducive Situation After Clash

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has instructed the entire Jakarta Provincial Government apparatus to coordinate with law enforcement officials and community figures in order to keep the situation safe and conducive. The directive follows a clash between residents that broke out in the area from Jalan Matraman Dalam to Jalan Tambak, Menteng, Central Jakarta.

Pramono said the coordination was being carried out with the security apparatus, community figures, religious leaders and youth figures as a step to maintain security and stability in the area.

“So, we have carried out coordination between the TNI, the National Police and the Jakarta Provincial Government to keep the situation conducive,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Monday, 27 July 2026.

He expressed hope that law enforcement officials would handle the case professionally through investigation and inquiry procedures in accordance with the prevailing laws and regulations.

Earlier, a clash between residents erupted on Jalan Tambak, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Sunday, 26 July 2026. According to the Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Reynold E. P. Hutagalung, the trouble was triggered by an act of vandalism against a nasi uduk vendor’s cart by a group of people, which then sparked an exchange of stone-throwing.

As a result of the clash, two people with the initials K and DS suffered serious injuries and received treatment at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM). One of the victims, K, was pronounced dead. The riot was also accompanied by acts of arson that burned down one semi-permanent building and four motorcycles.

To date, the Central Jakarta Metro Police are still questioning 15 people suspected of involvement in the incident. Police said the questioning was being conducted by distinguishing the clusters in each event in order to establish the role of each party.
