Pramono Instructs Cleaning of Sailfin Catfish Across All of DKI
Jakarta (ANTARA) - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has instructed his administration to carry out the cleaning of sailfin catfish across all areas of the capital where populations of the fish are abundant. “I am asking not only in Central Jakarta, but in all areas where there are many sailfin catfish for us to conduct operations (cleaning),” said Pramono during a press statement at the Jakarta East City Hall Office on Sunday. Not long ago, the cleaning action for sailfin catfish in Jakarta began in the Central Jakarta area, specifically in the canal around Grand Hyatt and Plaza Indonesia (PI). The cleaning involved the Mayor of Central Jakarta, the Provincial DKI Jakarta Food Security, Maritime, and Agriculture Agency (KPKP), and Public Facilities and Infrastructure Handling Officers (PPSU). “The one at PI yesterday was the beginning. There are indeed quite a lot, but it’s impossible to finish immediately. However, I think this is something beneficial and provides a positive contribution,” said Pramono. He stated that the presence of sailfin catfish damages environmental embankments, thus impacting the preservation of local aquatic ecosystems. “If immediate capture is not carried out, the number of sailfin catfish will certainly affect our ecosystem,” he said. Previously, the Head of the KPKP Agency of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, Hasudungan A. Sidabalok, said that the sailfin catfish problem is not new, but it had previously been resolved in the Ciliwung River. After cleaning and capture, the sailfin catfish will then be taken to the Ciganjur Fish Products Inspection and Certification Production Centre (PPISHP). “The carcasses of dead sailfin catfish will be buried because the resilience of sailfin catfish is such that if not ensured dead, they can live without being in water,” he said.
