Pramono Inspired by New York Regarding Air Transport
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has stated that he is inspired by New York City regarding the regulation of air transport. This statement follows plans to expand Transjakarta’s services into the air, which he presented during the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) Plenary Session on Thursday (1/10).
“Whether it be helicopters or whatever else that is currently trending in several major countries—including during my recent visit to New York, where air transport regulation is already in place”—said Pramono in Setiabudi, South Jakarta, on Friday (2/10).
Pramono admitted that the plan to expand Transjakarta’s services is based on a vision for Jakarta’s future as a megacity. “The reason Transjakarta is looking into air-related matters is that, in the long term, Jakarta, as a megacity, will inevitably require air transport regulation,” he explained.
He noted that major nations implementing such regulations serve as inspiration, specifically citing New York. The Governor recently visited ‘The Big Apple’ in mid-September.
Having observed the trend in major cities and countries to regulate air transport, he feels Jakarta must begin its preparations. “We must not wait until it becomes an urgent necessity to then deal with permits, especially regarding relevant local regulations. This is about preparing ourselves for the future,” Pramono stated.
During the Jakarta DPRD Plenary Session on Thursday (1/10), the Governor also proposed a Draft Regional Regulation (Ranperda) concerning the change of the legal entity status of PT Transportasi Jakarta to PT Transportasi Jakarta (Perseroda). He stated this change is intended to address the needs of an increasingly dynamic transport system.
This expansion would allow for an increase in capital for Transjakarta to develop its services. “Therefore, it is being increased from the previous Rp5.225 trillion to Rp13.4 trillion, with paid-up capital of Rp3.351 trillion,” Pramono noted.
With this expansion, Pramono said Transjakarta aims to introduce new service sectors, specifically air transport. “The scope of PT Transportasi Jakarta’s business is being expanded to support more integrated transport services, encompassing both water and air transport services,” he concluded.
