Jakarta (ANTARA) – Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo inspected the implementation of a Cheap Market programme on Pramuka Island, Thousand Islands, to ensure residents in the area have access to affordable food.

“We inspected the cheap market implementation. There are 1,000 affordable packages. Why did we do this? Because it is part of preparations for Eid al-Fitr,” said Pramono on Pramuka Island, Thousand Islands, on Friday.

The packages available at the Cheap Market are priced at 100,000 rupiah. However, residents can purchase them for only 50,000 rupiah.

Each package contains staples, including rice, cooking oil, and other essentials.

Pramono expressed confidence that the cheap market programme implemented across the Thousand Islands and five other Jakarta administrative divisions is sufficiently effective for residents.

“I am convinced that the programme carried out by the Jakarta Provincial Government in cooperation with regional state-owned enterprises to provide and oversee the implementation of these cheap market packages is highly effective,” said Pramono.

Elisabeth Ratu Rante Allo, Head of the Jakarta Provincial Office of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, and Micro and Small Enterprises, stated that the cheap market activity is conducted with the involvement of various stakeholders united in the Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID).

She noted that food price increases generally occur during national religious holidays and tend to recur annually, forming a cyclical pattern.

Therefore, to maintain price stability and curb inflation, the TPID along with the Office of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, and Micro and Small Enterprises holds various initiatives, including organising cheap markets.
