Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has stressed that donations during the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Fundraising Month must be voluntary and that no specific amount may be imposed.

“This morning I discussed it again with the head of the Jakarta PMI. Personally, I have already made a video campaign about PMI Fundraising Month. Contributions during this month are entirely voluntary. Neither officials nor the PMI itself should set contribution amounts as if paying the PMI were an obligation,” Pramono said in the Sudirman area of Central Jakarta on Thursday.

He acknowledged that similar practices had often occurred in the past, but stressed that they must not happen again.

He therefore called for no donation amounts to be set in schools or within the Jakarta Provincial Government bureaucracy.

“People may give or not; it is entirely voluntary. Apparently, this sort of thing was done in the past, as is happening now. I have asked that it not be allowed,” Pramono said.

Previously, a document setting out suggested PMI donation amounts for September to November 2026 was reported to have circulated within the Jakarta Provincial Government.

The document listed contribution amounts for provincial government employees according to their positions and employment status.

It stated that officials at the level of mayor would be asked to contribute Rp2.5 million per month, or Rp7.5 million over three months.

City assistants and officials at echelon III/a level were listed at Rp1.5 million. Civil servants were listed at Rp300,000, while prospective civil servants and government employees on fixed-term contracts (PPPK) were listed at Rp150,000.

The document also set a contribution of Rp30,000 for contract-based honorary staff.
