Pramono Inaugurates Two Reservoirs in South Jakarta, Claiming 20 Per Cent Flood Reduction
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung inaugurated two reservoirs in South Jakarta, namely the Jagakarsa Reservoir and the Pemuda 1 Srengseng Sawah Reservoir, on Tuesday (19/05/2026). Pramono claimed that the existence of these two reservoirs could reduce the potential for puddles and flooding in the surrounding areas by 10 to 20 per cent.
“The catchment area of these reservoirs will reduce the water discharge or flooding in the local area by between 10 and 20 per cent,” Pramono stated during the inauguration in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta. However, he urged that both pieces of infrastructure be well-maintained. According to Pramono, many previously built facilities have failed to function optimally due to a lack of maintenance.
“Therefore, the management must be carried out properly. We must not reach a point where we can build but cannot maintain. One of our problems is related to maintaining what we have constructed,” Pramono said. He also requested that the relevant departments perform routine maintenance on the Jagakarsa and Pemuda 1 Srengseng Sawah reservoirs to ensure water control functions remain at maximum capacity.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of South Jakarta, M. Anwar, noted that the Jagakarsa Reservoir construction began in 2023, with area revitalisation continuing into 2025. “This reservoir has a water storage capacity of 13,692 cubic metres, with a catchment area reaching 561 hectares,” Anwar said.
As for the Pemuda 1 Srengseng Sawah Reservoir, construction commenced in 2024 and the revitalisation was completed in 2025. This reservoir serves to reduce flood potential in the Srengseng Sawah sub-district. “This reservoir has a storage capacity of up to 34,872 cubic metres and a catchment area of 374.73 hectares. This reservoir is one of the vital infrastructures in the water control system in the South Jakarta area,” he added.
In addition to flood control, both reservoirs are also intended to function as green open spaces and public areas, where residents can utilise the reservoir areas for exercise and recreation.
