Pramono Inaugurates Rasuna Said Road Revamp After Monorail Pillar Removal

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has inaugurated the newly renovated Jalan HR Rasuna Said in South Jakarta after the dismantling of the monorail pillars was completed. Pramono expressed hope that the road would become a new face of Jakarta. “Officially, Jalan Rasuna Said, which has been renovated along 3.8 kilometres with 109 pillars cut down, is today officially inaugurated and operational,” Pramono said during the ceremony on Sunday (21/6/2026). The inauguration was attended by Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Chairman Setyo Budiyanto and former Jakarta Governor Sutiyoso, also known as Bang Yos. Pramono noted that Bang Yos was invited because the road’s revitalisation was inspired by his era. “The piling was originally done during his tenure, but due to a change in central government policy from the planned monorail to the LRT, it was not his fault. One thousand percent not his fault, because of the policy change,” he stated. Given the area’s concentration of embassy offices, Pramono has received considerable appreciation from ambassadors. He thanked all parties involved in the renovation work. “Because almost all along this road are embassy offices, this will become a new face of Jakarta,” he said. Pramono also mentioned that the nearby Cideng River is currently being revitalised. He hopes that once completed, it could resemble Paris. “I imagine one day, if this is all tidy like in Paris, people will come to attach padlocks as a sign of love. Why? Because it’s close to the KPK. So it’s a sign of love for that and for our integrity towards the city of Jakarta,” he remarked. The DKI Jakarta Highways Department had accelerated the revitalisation process of Jalan HR Rasuna Said in Kuningan, South Jakarta, following the monorail pillar demolition. The project was targeted for completion ahead of Jakarta’s 499th anniversary on 22 June 2026. “In principle, we are optimistic that the revitalisation will be completed before Jakarta’s anniversary on 22 June. We also urge the public to remain cautious during the construction process,” said Siti Dinarwenny, Head of the Data and Information Centre at the DKI Jakarta Highways Department, in a statement on Saturday (2/5). The acceleration aimed to allow the public to quickly experience improvements in comfort, safety, and road accessibility. Works being expedited included pavement widening, drainage improvements, and underground utility arrangement.
