Pramono Hopes Jakarta Hospitals Become Preferred Choice, Reducing Overseas Medical Trips

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung inaugurated Mayapada Hospital East Jakarta on Thursday (9/7/2026), expressing hope that its presence would provide a local healthcare option and reduce the number of residents seeking medical treatment overseas. “Today I inaugurate Mayapada Hospital East Jakarta, and hopefully this brings goodness and blessings, especially making the people of Jakarta healthier and happier,” Pramono said during the ceremony. He expressed his desire for hospital facilities in Jakarta to continue improving to an international standard, eliminating the need for citizens to travel abroad for care. “I sincerely hope that the development of Mayapada will help Jakarta become a city with better health awareness. I truly hope that Mayapada Hospital becomes an international hospital whose benchmark and reference are no longer hospitals in Indonesia,” he stated. “I hope this becomes the choice for our citizens who previously wanted to go to hospitals in Penang or Singapore; there is no need to go far. Just in Jakarta, just at Mayapada, because they have very good and complete facilities,” he continued. Pramono noted that if the quality of healthcare services in Jakarta continues to rise, residents will no longer need to spend money on overseas medical treatment, which would also help reduce the outflow of Indonesian foreign exchange. He explained that the new hospital has a capacity of 107 beds and focuses on maternal and child services. He added that the facility is much needed, as Cakung is the second most densely populated sub-district in Jakarta after Tambora, yet has limited health facilities. “As we all know, there are 195 hospitals in Jakarta. Some are managed by the Jakarta government, some are private, some are vertical, and some are owned by the TNI and Polri,” he said. “But once again, the most important thing is that if everything is well coordinated, then what is called Jakarta’s universal healthcare, which is already high at around 98.74 percent, must be maintained, and even improved if necessary,” he added.
