Pramono Highlights Underutilisation of Jakarta Provincial Government Assets
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has highlighted that many assets belonging to the Jakarta Provincial Government have not been utilised optimally because previous decision-makers tended to be overly cautious to avoid legal entanglements in their management. “One of the reasons is certainly the decision-makers. Policy makers do not want to be held hostage by legal issues,” Pramono said after inspecting the former office site of the Human Resources Development Agency in South Jakarta on Thursday. Nevertheless, he stated that he has had experience in government since 1999 and is accustomed to carrying out tasks related to public policy, legal frameworks, and so forth. Regarding the utilisation of the former agency’s land, he declared that it will be done transparently and with assistance from law enforcement agencies. “From the outset, I will also request assistance from the Corruption Eradication Commission and the Junior Attorney General for Civil and State Administrative Affairs so that in matters concerning such a strategic location, everyone is legally protected,” Pramono revealed. On Thursday, Pramono inspected the former agency’s land, which is to be developed into a Jakarta International Cultural Hub. The 24,375 square metre, or approximately 2.4-hectare, area will be developed through a utilisation cooperation scheme with the private sector without using the Jakarta regional budget. Pramono considers the provincial government’s asset to be highly strategic as it is located in Jakarta’s Golden Triangle area, between Jalan HR Rasuna Said and Jalan Casablanca, surrounded by business centres, offices, embassies, shopping centres, and residential areas.
