Pramono Highlights Sub-District Services: Don't Make Them Free in Front of the Governor but Charge Behind His Back
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung inaugurated four sub-district offices, namely Senen, Tanah Tinggi, Semper Barat, and Sunter Jaya, on Monday (4/5/2026).
According to Pramono, sub-districts are the public service points closest to residents. Therefore, the quality of services at this level is very important.
“In my perspective, this is actually the main spearhead of services provided to the public. The closest one, the most complained about—if there’s even a slight mistake, it’s complained about; if it’s done right a lot, it’s usually just smiled at,” Pramono said at the Senen Sub-District Office in Central Jakarta on Monday.
According to him, all services must be provided free of charge without collecting even a single rupiah.
However, Pramono emphasised that he does not want services to appear free only when questioned by him, but in reality, residents are still asked to pay.
According to him, if services are indeed free, they must be truly free without exception. He reminded that there should be no hidden levies that could harm the public.
In addition to services, Pramono also highlighted the importance of transparency in government facility construction.
He requested that all construction processes be carried out openly and auditable to avoid problems in the future.
Going forward, Pramono hopes that the construction of sub-district offices can provide more friendly, open services that make residents feel comfortable.
“May these facilities provide the greatest benefits in improving the quality of public services, to realise Jakarta as a global city, and at the same time a national economic centre that is inclusive, sustainable, and prosperous for its residents,” Pramono said.
