Pramono Has Not Decided on Proposed Jakarta Parking Tariff Increase

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has spoken about the development of the proposed increase in parking tariffs in Jakarta. Pramono stressed that, to date, he has not decided whether parking tariffs will be raised.

He made the remarks when met in the Menteng area of Central Jakarta on Saturday (22/8/2026). Pramono said there is a proposal to revise parking tariffs being discussed in the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD).

“So there is already a proposal to revise parking tariffs. Honestly, I can say that as of today I have not made a decision,” Pramono said.

Pramono explained that the decision to raise parking tariffs lies in the hands of the Governor. Meanwhile, the Jakarta DPRD currently has a Special Committee on Parking that is discussing various proposals related to parking tariffs.

“Because the decision to raise parking tariffs is the authority of the Governor. Although, as you all know, the Jakarta Provincial DPRD also has a Special Committee on Parking. Several proposals have been submitted,” he said.

According to Pramono, parking tariffs in Jakarta have not been adjusted for quite a long time. The former Cabinet Secretary said parking tariffs in the capital have not been raised for almost 14 years.

“And indeed, in Jakarta, parking tariffs have not been raised or adjusted for almost 14 years. But I have not made a decision as of today,” Pramono said.

Meanwhile, contacted separately, the Chairman of the Jakarta DPRD Special Committee on Parking, Ahmad Lukman Jupiter, said there is a proposal to change parking tariffs using a zoning system. Under this scheme, areas with high economic value could potentially have higher parking tariffs.

Jupiter said a number of areas such as SCBD, Menteng, Senayan, and parts of South Jakarta could be included in zones with higher tariffs.

“So a zoning system will be introduced. For example, the SCBD area is considered to have high economic value. The Menteng area, then areas like Bandung Indah, then areas in South Jakarta, Senayan. So the highest threshold for the tariff would be up to Rp60,000,” Jupiter told reporters.

However, Jupiter criticised the proposal. He assessed that a parking tariff of up to Rp60,000 for cars would be too burdensome for the public.

“So in my opinion, it is too burdensome for the public. Burdensome. It is unreasonable, it is nonsense,” he said.

Jupiter said raising parking tariffs is not the right solution for increasing Jakarta’s locally generated revenue. According to him, there are still many other sources of revenue that can be optimised without burdening the public.

“The point is, that is not the way to increase locally generated revenue. There are still many other things, as I mentioned earlier. There is actually still a lot we can do,” he said.

“Something more palatable. Do not squeeze the public in the current conditions,” Jupiter added.
