Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has responded to the clashes in Petamburan, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, which occurred for three consecutive days. Pramono stated that he has received a report from Central Jakarta Mayor Arifin and has urged law enforcement authorities to act decisively. “I have instructed the Central Jakarta Mayor, of course through law enforcement in this case the Police,” Pramono said in the Monas area, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (18/4/2026). “To take firm action against anyone who is the initiator of this violent act,” he emphasised. “And hopefully it will not happen again,” he added. Previously, clashes between youth groups in Petamburan took place from Wednesday (15/4/2026) to Friday (17/4/2026) night. A local resident, Ilham (32), described the Friday night clash as the third and most severe, accompanied by arson. “It has happened three times. The first one was at 01:30 WIB on Wednesday early morning. Then the second at 20:30 WIB on Thursday (16/4/2026) night,” said Ilham. “And this Friday one, after Isha at 19:00 WIB,” he continued. According to Ilham, the first two incidents did not result in fires, although there was mutual throwing of firecrackers and carrying of sharp weapons. The Friday night clash then triggered a fire in a row of trader stalls. “They brought firecrackers, shot them (threw them) at us and he set fire here, at the fruit trader stalls. If not mistaken, using a Molotov cocktail,” said Ilham. Another witness, Imam (35), also saw a bottle containing liquid suspected to be kerosene thrown at the trader stalls.
