Pramono Extends Jakarta's Remote Learning Due to Volcanic Ash Until Tomorrow

The DKI Jakarta provincial government will extend the implementation of distance learning (Pembelajaran Jarak Jauh, or PJJ) for all education units until tomorrow. The policy was taken to ensure student safety even though the spread of volcanic ash in the capital is reported to have dropped dramatically.

DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the decision was made after direct coordination with the DKI Jakarta Education Office. Field evaluations showed residual ash exposure still present at several points across Jakarta.

“Earlier I discussed it with the Head of the Education Office. The volcanic ash has actually declined remarkably now, but it is still present in some areas. We still need one more day to extend this PJJ until tomorrow,” said Pramono at City Hall on Monday (7/9).

Pramono then instructed the DKI Jakarta Education Office to promptly issue official regulations in the form of a Circular Letter (SE) as a reference for all schools. “In Jakarta, my verbal instructions alone are not enough; there must be a Circular Letter from the Head of the Education Office governing the technical implementation,” he asserted.

All teaching and learning activities in Jakarta will remain online until the next evaluation of air conditions is issued.
