Pramono explains reason for choosing Transjakarta to manage transport to Thousand Islands

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has said he wants transport to the Thousand Islands to be managed by Transjakarta because public trust in the city-owned enterprise is considerable.

He assessed that Transjakarta’s current performance is very good, as evidenced by the operator managing nearly 10,000 buses. In addition, the number of Transjakarta passengers has continued to increase.

“This shows that the people of Jakarta now place their trust in Transjakarta. Based on that, I ultimately decided that transport from, say, mainland Jakarta to the Thousand Islands will be managed by Transjakarta,” Pramono said in North Jakarta on Monday.

He noted that transport to the Thousand Islands was previously handled by the Jakarta Transportation Agency and partly by operators on the ground, most of whom are residents of the Thousand Islands.

However, according to Pramono, this arrangement became highly inefficient. He therefore decided that transport to the Thousand Islands will be managed by Transjakarta going forward.

He said the management mechanism for the transport service will be finalised.

“Because we need to amend the regional regulation, the gubernatorial regulation, and later determine the fares. What is certain is that fares will be cheaper if managed professionally, as is currently done at Transjakarta,” Pramono said.
