Pramono Ensures SDN Kebayoran Lama 09 Will Be Rebuilt Immediately

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has confirmed that the collapsed building of SDN Kebayoran Lama 09 will be rebuilt, even though the budget is not yet available in the Regional Budget (APBD) or the Revised Regional Budget (APBD Perubahan). Pramono plans to visit the site tomorrow. “We held a meeting yesterday and another one today to make a decision,” Pramono said, as quoted in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, on Thursday (23/7).

Pramono stated that education is one of the most fundamental sectors, and school repairs cannot be postponed. He has therefore instructed his staff to seek other funding sources to ensure construction can proceed. “Even though the budget is not in the APBD or the Revised APBD, we can use available funds, such as those from the building floor coefficient (KLB) levy, among others. The point is, this afternoon I will immediately decide when this school will be built,” he said.

According to Pramono, the collapse of the school building is a serious concern for the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. He admitted he only learned of the condition of SDN Kebayoran Lama 09 yesterday, Wednesday (22/7), and immediately held a meeting with his staff to accelerate the response. “What is clear is that for Jakarta, and for me personally, the state of education like that is a real slap in the face,” he remarked. Pramono stressed that a decision on the school’s reconstruction will be made swiftly so that teaching and learning activities are not disrupted.
