Pramono ensures LPDP Jakarta is for underprivileged students, not for patronage

Jakarta - The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung Wibowo, has ensured that the LPDP Jakarta scholarship is specifically dedicated to underprivileged students with academic achievements and is not intended for personal patronage.

Met at the DKI Jakarta PMI Building in Kramat Raya, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, Pramono emphasised that the Jakarta Provincial Government prioritises scholarship recipients who are residents of Jakarta and possess strong academic records.

“To ensure this does not become a place where people scramble to secure placements through connections, we are working with the central LPDP for the selection process. Although we will prioritise Jakarta residents from underprivileged families, they must possess good academic capabilities,” said Pramono.

Pramono explained that the LPDP Jakarta programme is regulated under Governor Regulation (Pergub) Number 20 of 2026 concerning Assistance for the Improvement of Education Quality.

This programme provides opportunities for high-achieving Jakarta residents to pursue Master’s (S2) and Doctoral (S3) degrees at the world’s top universities.

LPDP Jakarta is targeted to commence for the 2027 study period, with registration planned to open in September 2027.

The Jakarta Provincial Government has prepared a budget of approximately Rp100 billion. While the selection mechanism will be conducted alongside the central LPDP, the Provincial Government will determine the recipients, fields of study, and destinations to align with the human resource needs of Jakarta as a global city.

In addition to LPDP, Pramono stated that the regulation also covers the Jakarta Superior Student Card (KJMU), which is now divided into two stages.

“Due to changes in the Central Bureau of Statistics regarding deciles, to ensure that students already receiving KJMU continue to receive guarantees, this is the first time the regulation has established a two-stage process. Those without issues will have their KJMU automatically extended,” Pramono explained.

The second stage involves students who experience changes in their decile or are found to have certain assets, such as owning a car, being the child of a Civil Servant (ASN), or owning a property with Land and Building Tax (PBB) exceeding Rp2 billion.

“For those cases, a re-verification will be conducted. Therefore, there are two stages,” he clarified.
