Pramono Ensures Jakarta's Food Stocks Are Still Secure Amid Iran–Israel Conflict

Pramono said, “So for Jakarta, the things related to basic needs, from rice, meat, curly red chilli, and others, we guarantee are safe. In fact we have surplus stock.” He spoke in South Jakarta on Friday. Pramono noted that this is evidenced by staple prices in the market that did not rise significantly. Although there was an increase in the price of curly red chilli, Pramono is making efforts to keep staple prices stable. Meanwhile, to curb the price of beef so it does not rise, the Jakarta Government has also imported 3,100 head of cattle. In addition, the Jakarta Government distributed basic food packages through the tebus murah programme at Balai Warga Ciganjur, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, on Thursday (5/3). The activity was the result of collaboration between Badan Usaha Milik Daerah (BUMD) Perumda Pasar Jaya and the Prakarsa Warga community. Pramono explained that the basic food packages distributed were valued at Rp150,000, but residents only needed to pay Rp100,000. In the programme, 500 basic food packages were distributed. The activity took place in five city districts and one regency in Jakarta. In each area, 1,000 packages will be distributed. The basic food packages consisted of 5kg of premium rice, 2 litres of cooking oil, 1kg of flour, and 1kg of sugar, which could be redeemed for Rp100,000. Although the stock of food remains safe, Pramono ordered his ranks to be prepared for possible crises amid the Iran–Israel–USA conflict. “I am instructing the ranks of Badan Usaha Milik Daerah (BUMD) to always think about crises. So if there is a shortage, for example of certain products, we must prepare for that,” Pramono said.
