JAKARTA — Gubernor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, assured that the capital’s food supply remains secure even as the geopolitical situation intensifies amid the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran. The Jakarta Provincial Government has prepared stocks of essential goods, ranging from rice and meat to curly red chillies, so residents need not worry. ‘So for Jakarta, the essentials—from rice, meat, curly red chillies, and others—we guarantee they are safe. In fact, we have surplus stock,’ Pramono said during an event in Srengseng Sawah, South Jakarta, on Friday (6 March 2026).

According to him, there has not been a significant price increase in several commodities. ‘There was an uptick in curly red chillies yesterday of around three, four, five percent, and we hope to maintain this,’ he said. Pramono added that the regional government has prepared anticipatory steps to sustain price stability, particularly for meat. One measure is to bring in additional cattle supplies to keep meat prices under control. ‘Why yesterday did we import and bring in around 2,000 head of cattle? We have prepared that so that meat prices in Jakarta do not rise,’ he said. He stressed that the availability of fuel (BBM) in Jakarta is managed jointly by the central and regional governments so that supplies remain secure. ‘All stocks in Jakarta are managed together with the central government. Not managed by the regional government alone, but jointly. Because I am confident there will be no panic buying in Jakarta for fuel matters,’ Pramono said. He added that Jakarta is also one of the priority areas in energy distribution, ensuring BBM supplies are safe.
