Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has responded to the extortion case involving a porridge vendor in the Tanah Abang area, Central Jakarta. Pramono stated that the perpetrators have been quickly addressed by the authorities.

Pramono said he immediately coordinated with relevant parties upon receiving the report of the incident. He contacted the Head of the DKI Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), Satriadi Gunawan, to ensure appropriate handling on the ground.

“I immediately called the Head of the Satpol PP Agency to take action at that time,” Pramono told reporters on Saturday (11/4/2026).

He said that the extortionists have now been secured and are undergoing legal proceedings. His side, he added, will not tolerate acts of thuggery or extortion that harm residents.

“Those who extort and damage are immediately arrested and detained,” he stated.

Pramono also addressed public scrutiny regarding Jakarta’s security conditions, which is often cited as one of the safest cities in ASEAN. He explained that this assessment is based on global surveys, not just unilateral statements from the local government.

Nevertheless, he acknowledged that dynamics in a major city like Jakarta still exist. Especially, he said, with a large population, the potential for security disturbances remains possible.

“Jakarta, with more than 11 million residents, naturally cannot be entirely without issues. But such matters are immediately addressed firmly by us,” he clarified.

He stated that the speed of response is key to maintaining residents’ sense of security. The DKI Provincial Government, he added, will continue to coordinate with law enforcement agencies to ensure that every disturbance to public order is handled promptly.

“The important thing is a quick response and firm enforcement,” he concluded.

It is known that police arrested three viral thugs who extorted a porridge vendor and smashed bowls in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta. The three are now secured at the Tanah Abang Police Sector (Mapolsek) office.

The three perpetrators are TDT (26), DA (36), and OP (36). In a video recording obtained by reporters, the three were seen being escorted to the Tanah Abang Mapolsek for examination.

The three no longer appeared intimidating as they did during the extortion of the porridge vendor. The perpetrators now looked downcast and listless as they were led to the police station.

The incident occurred on Thursday (9/4) around 23:40 WIB. In the circulating video, the perpetrators were seen carrying out extortion against the vendor and damaging merchandise, including smashing the porridge seller’s bowls.
