Pramono elected as Vice-Chair of the C40
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung Wibowo has been elected as Vice-Chair of the Steering Committee of C40 Cities, reinforcing Jakarta’s strategic role as a climate action leader in East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Oceania (ESEAO). The election also demonstrates Jakarta’s example-setting status for rapidly developing megacities. ‘For Jakarta, commitment to climate action is not merely rhetoric; it is realized through holistic, multi-sectoral steps,’ Pramono said in a statement on Friday. In his role as Vice-Chair of the Steering Committee, Jakarta will continue to strengthen its position as a global city by promoting collective leadership towards achieving net-zero emissions, while delivering tangible benefits to the community. Meanwhile, Marulina Dewi, Head of Regional Cooperation Bureau of the Jakarta Provincial Government, said Pramono’s appointment reflects Jakarta’s growing standing in international cooperation and city-to-city diplomacy at a global level. ‘The trust placed in Governor Pramono Anung as Vice-Chair of the C40 Cities Steering Committee reflects the world’s recognition of Jakarta as a city actively driving climate solutions, sustainable development, and city diplomacy,’ Dewi stated. ‘This momentum also strengthens Jakarta’s position as an important partner in the global network of cities to build a more resilient, inclusive, and just urban future,’ she added. C40 Cities is a global network comprising nearly 100 of the world’s largest cities committed to addressing the climate crisis. The network focuses on inter-city collaboration through knowledge exchange, strengthening policy innovation, and accelerating the implementation of climate solutions with tangible impact. Member cities of C40 represent more than 700 million people and about a quarter of the global economy, making it one of the most influential platforms for driving urban climate action.
