Jakarta, Indonesia — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has cautioned residents to remain vigilant about the potential for heavy rainfall during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period this year. Beyond rainfall, the provincial government is also monitoring the possibility of rising sea levels.

“There is still a moderate potential for heavy rainfall during the Eid al-Fitr period,” Pramono stated during a Ramadhan visit with Jakarta provincial government officials to the Thousand Islands on Friday (13 March 2026).

He also highlighted the possibility of rising sea levels that warrants particular attention from residents living in coastal areas. “However, there is also data indicating that sea levels may rise,” said Pramono.

In addition to weather-related warnings, Pramono has requested residents planning to travel for the Eid holiday to inform their local neighbourhood administrators (RT and RW) before leaving their homes. According to him, such notification is important so that the surrounding community can monitor homes left vacant during the holiday period.

“I have already instructed Jakarta’s provincial government officials, down to the RW and RT levels, to conduct outreach to all residents planning to travel, urging them to report their departure,” Pramono said.

“We are asking all residents who will be travelling to report to their local RT and RW. We want to prevent situations like those in the past where fires or floods occur in unmonitored homes,” he added.
