Pramono Denies Disabling CCTV During 27 August Protests

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has denied rumours that his administration intentionally turned off closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras during the demonstrations in Jakarta on Thursday, 27 August 2026.

“It is untrue that there were any attempts to disable the CCTV and so on, because everything is monitored and we have the data to prove it,” Pramono stated when met in South Jakarta on Monday.

However, Pramono did confirm that certain CCTV cameras were damaged due to the actions of irresponsible individuals.

Pramono has instructed his staff to investigate the matter deeply and locate those responsible for the vandalism, including an incident in the Pejompongan area.

“We are certainly investigating this now, including the incident in Pejompongan. But I must convey that, overall, almost all of our public facilities functioned well during the recent protests,” Pramono explained.

Previously, Pramono also requested the Head of the Jakarta Communication, Informatics, and Statistics Office (Diskominfotik), Marulina Dewi, to track down the individuals responsible for damaging the CCTV cameras during the expression of opinions on Thursday, 27 August 2026.

Once the perpetrators are identified, Pramono requested that they be dealt with by law enforcement agencies, stating that the destruction of public facilities is entirely unjustifiable.

“As I have stated repeatedly, in a democratic nation, demonstrations are permitted and allowed as long as they follow proper procedures. However, if they involve destruction and anarchy, there is certainly no public support for such actions,” Pramono concluded.
