Pramono denies Banten land is intended for waste disposal
Banten — The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, has denied claims that a 100-hectare plot of land in Ciangir, Legok, Tangerang, Banten, is designated as a disposal site for Jakarta’s waste, asserting instead that it is a location for developing food security for both Jakarta and Banten.
“This place is not what people think; it will not serve as an alternative to the Bantargebang waste processing site. Not at all,” he stated in Ciлоir, Banten, on Friday.
Pramono explained that of the total land area, 40 hectares will be utilised by the Jakarta Environmental Agency for organic waste processing, including maggot cultivation and other supporting activities.
“What will be brought here in the future is fertiliser resulting from the processing at TPS 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) sites in Jakarta, such as from Menteng Atas. The management of waste issues will continue to be handled comprehensively,” he said.
Meanwhile, approximately 20 hectares will be managed by Perumda Dharma Jaya to be developed as an integrated agricultural and livestock area, including poultry, ducks, and catfish, to support Jakarta’s food security. The remaining land is part of a contribution of assets from the Jakarta Provincial Government to the Ministry of Law and Human Rights for use as a correctional facility (lapas).
This initiative is expected to drive circular economic growth, improve community welfare, develop technology-based livestock farming, and strengthen Jakarta’s sustainable food security.
“I have instructed the Head of the Environmental Agency, the Head of the Food Security, Fisheries, and Agriculture Agency (KPKP), and the President Director of Dharma Jaya to maximise the empowerment of local residents,” he added.
To accelerate development, he has instructed the Environmental Agency, the KPKP, and the Regional Asset Management Agency (BPAD) to ensure that works under the authority of the Jakarta Provincial Government can commence as early as possible, by early September 2026 at the latest.
Furthermore, the Governor of Banten, Andra Soni, noted that this inter-regional collaboration would benefit both provinces. “Jakarta needs Banten, and Banten needs Jakarta. Many Banten residents work in Jakarta, while many Jakarta residents live in Banten,” he said.
