Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung says he will not take matters lightly and will take decisive action if there are civil servants in the DKI Jakarta provincial government who persist in disobeying the rule to use private vehicles and not use public transport (transum) every Wednesday.

This stern stance follows findings that a number of staff and guests at the inauguration continued to park their private motor vehicles in the IRTI Monas parking area, located opposite City Hall in Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, Central Jakarta.

To respond to indications of violations, Pramono immediately instructed his subordinates to verify the data and implement sanctions on the ground.

‘If there is data and evidence, I will ask the City Hall leadership, the Government, the Secretary to the Governor, and Bu Premi to take action against anyone who violates the rule not to use public transport,’ Pramono said at City Hall, DKI Jakarta, on Wednesday (4/3).

The rule mandating use of public transport on Wednesdays was emphasised by Pramono as he led by example, continuing to comply with the rule even if it requires adjustments to the government’s formal agenda.

‘First, I am a person who consistently, even today, if necessary, I will still travel by public transport,’ Pramono said.

Pramono hopes that the Wednesday public transport obligation policy will serve as a concrete example by the DKI Provincial Government in its efforts to improve the capital’s traffic movement system.

‘Because this is an example of how we improve the transport system in Jakarta,’ he said.

In response to loopholes in the use of IRTI Monas parking that are often exploited by violators, the government is now preparing comprehensive rehabilitation of the area.

‘Actually, the IRTI section will be renovated soon because we are working with the central government and will redesign it,’ Pramono said.
