Pramono demands firm action against online gambling network in Hayam Wuruk
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has requested that the international online gambling (judol) network located in the Hayam Wuruk area, West Jakarta, be firmly dealt with.
“I hope this action is not half-hearted, so that it can create a deterrent effect for anyone who has the intention to engage in online gambling in Jakarta,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday.
He also supports the Mobile Brigade Unit of Metro Jaya Police, which is providing security during the law enforcement operation against the judol network in the Hayam Wuruk area, as judol has already caused very negative impacts.
“The Jakarta Government provides full support if law enforcement officials then take the harshest possible actions or punishments against these perpetrators. As we all know, judol has caused very negative impacts, especially for uneducated, low-income residents who are attracted to promises but in reality, this is very detrimental,” he explained.
Previously, the Indonesian National Police (Polri) revealed preliminary findings regarding the roles of 320 foreign nationals involved in the international online gambling case at Hayam Wuruk Plaza Tower, Jakarta.
“There are various roles. Some are in telemarketing, customer service, there are also those in admin, including those who handle collections,” said Director of General Criminal Affairs of the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency, Brigadier General of Police Wira Satya Triputra, in Jakarta on Sunday (10/5).
Nevertheless, Wira stated that Polri will continue to deepen and develop the roles of the 320 foreign nationals (WNA).
“We will continue to conduct in-depth investigations and developments on this case. So, it won’t stop here,” he said.
On Saturday (9/5), Polri arrested 321 people related to the crime of online or daring gambling (judol) of an international network.
Then, on Sunday, Polri announced that the 320 people involved in online gambling are foreign nationals (WNA) and their detention has been handed over to the Directorate General of Immigration of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Kemenimipas).
