Pramono Delighted to See Young Literacy Champions Perform at City Hall
The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, presented prizes to the winners of the Writing Competition and the Jakarta Children’s Reading Day (Hanjaba) 2026 Literacy Competition. Pramono appeared delighted as the young ‘champions’ performed at City Hall.
The moment took place at Jakarta City Hall on Thursday (3/9/2026). Initially, Pramono invited the winners to take the stage.
“Come on, I want to hear you read a poem. It is fine, just read what you have memorised,” Pramono said to the poetry reading winner, Alfataro Serhan, from SDIT Nurul Iman.
Serhan then performed the poem ‘Diponegoro’ by Chairil Anwar. The guests in attendance immediately broke into loud applause after Serhan finished his recitation.
“Extraordinary, extraordinary. Hopefully, one day we will have great artists born from Hanjaba,” said Pramono.
Pramono then invited the winner of the English speech competition, Thirza Namika, from SMA Negeri 15 Jakarta, to deliver a speech. Namika then spoke about her feelings as a winner.
“Since you are the first-place winner of the English speech competition, please give a speech in English, but do not make it too long,” Pramono said.
“Okay, should the speech be about today?” Namika asked.
“Yes,” Pramono replied.
After Namika finished her speech, Pramono invited the winner of the ‘pantun’ (traditional poetry) competition, Naurah Najla Olivia, from SMP Negeri 73 Jakarta, to perform a pantun. He asked Naurah to perform the poem that had secured her victory.
Here is the pantun presented by Naurah:
Borneo Island has many proboscis monkeys,
Proboscis monkeys love to eat papaya.
Jakarta is etched in our memories,
Building a cultured Jakarta city.
Pramono subsequently expressed his appreciation for the winners. He stated that the winners made him confident that Jakarta would be more colourful in the future.
“Looking at the performance and displays of our children, frankly, I feel that Jakarta’s future is colourful, full of colour, so that we are all full of optimism. But most importantly, let us, through all our activities and endeavours, protect Jakarta together,” he said.
