Pramono Defends Security Guard Who Confronted Alphard Driver, Asks for No Dismissal

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has defended a security guard named Vicol who was involved in a clash with a Toyota Alphard driver in the Bundaran HI area, Central Jakarta. Vicol was known to have struck the window of the Alphard, which allegedly ran a red light. The action was taken out of concern for the safety of pedestrians who were crossing at the time. Pramono assessed that Vicol had performed his duties well. Based on CCTV data, he revealed that the Alphard driver had actually committed a violation. “The person concerned actually carried out his duties very well. And it appears that the Alphard was the one that violated the rules,” Pramono told reporters on Friday, 24 July 2026. Pramono then requested that the security guard named Vicol not be subject to dismissal sanctions as a result of his actions. “As for the fate of the security guard, I will ask that he not be dismissed or discharged,” he concluded. Previously, a video of the altercation between a security guard and a Toyota Alphard driver in the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout area, Central Jakarta, had been widely discussed. Amidst the public spotlight, the security guard, Vicol, finally gave his explanation regarding the incident which ended in mediation at the Thamrin Police Post. Vicol admitted that he did strike the window of the Alphard which allegedly ran a red light. However, the action was taken spontaneously out of concern for endangering pedestrians who were crossing at the time. “After the red light came on, it was the pedestrians’ turn to cross. At that moment, one of the cars ran the red light,” he said in a circulating video recording. According to Vicol, his emotions were triggered seeing the vehicle continue to move when pedestrians had the right to cross. He knocked on the car window while reminding the driver. “Because I was annoyed, I hit the car window. I shouted, ‘Hey, red light,’” he said. The situation escalated after three people got out of the car, including the driver. Vicol admitted to being involved in a shoving match.
