Pramono Defends Security Guard Who Confronted Alphard Driver, Asks for No Dismissal

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has defended a security guard named Vicol who was involved in an altercation with a Toyota Alphard driver in the Bundaran HI area of Central Jakarta.

Vicol was seen striking the windscreen of the Alphard, which allegedly ran a red light. He took the action out of concern for pedestrians who were crossing at the time.

Pramono judged that Vicol had carried out his duties well. Based on CCTV footage, he revealed that it was in fact the Alphard driver who had committed a traffic violation.

“The person concerned was actually carrying out his duties very well. And it is clear that it was the Alphard that violated the rules,” Pramono told reporters on Friday, 24 July 2026.

Pramono went on to request that the security guard, Vicol, not face dismissal following the incident.

“As for the security guard’s fate, I will ask that he not be fired or removed from his post,” he concluded.

As previously reported, a video of the altercation between the security guard and the Toyota Alphard driver in the Bundaran Hotel Indonesia (HI) area of Central Jakarta continued to attract public attention.

Amid intense public scrutiny, the security guard named Vicol finally gave his account of the incident, which ended with mediation at the Thamrin Police Post.

Vicol admitted that he had indeed struck the windscreen of the Alphard, which allegedly ran a red light. However, he said the action was spontaneous, driven by concern for pedestrians who were crossing at the time.

“When the red light came on, it was the pedestrians’ turn to cross. At that moment, one of the cars ran the red light,” he said in a circulating video recording, quoted on Friday, 24 July 2026.

According to Vicol, his emotions were provoked upon seeing the vehicle continue to move while pedestrians had the right of way. He then struck the car’s window while warning the driver.

“Because I was annoyed, I hit the car’s window. I shouted, ‘Oi, red light,’” he said.

Vicol went on to say that he again confronted the driver when the vehicle slowed down. However, the driver reportedly did not open his window.

“‘Oi Sir, red light. I was only trying to save other people’s lives.’ He still didn’t open his car window,” he said.

The situation then escalated after three people, including the driver, got out of the car. Vicol admitted there had been a scuffle involving pushing between the two sides.
