Pramono Declares Sumber Waras Controversy Resolved, Ahok: The Truth Has Finally Emerged
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung asked Deputy Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Veronika Tan to convey a message to former Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, or Ahok, that the Sumber Waras land dispute has been resolved. Ahok responded to this with thanks.
The message was delivered by Pramono during Cap Go Meh celebrations in Glodok, on Tuesday, 3 March 2026, which Veronika also attended. Pramono joked as he entrusted a message for Ahok to Veronica, who is Ahok’s former wife.
“Thank you, finally the truth has emerged,” Ahok said when asked for his response to the Sumber Waras controversy which has ended, on Wednesday, 4 March.
Ahok said Jakarta’s provincial government should already have the largest cancer hospital built on that site. He said the hospital would also be equipped with 500 apartments to care for stage 4 cancer patients in palliative care in those apartments.
“If complaints are to be made, Jakarta should already have the largest cancer hospital and 500 apartments to accommodate stage 4 cancer patients in palliative care at those apartments,” he said.
He hopes an international hospital can be built after the Sumber Waras matter is resolved. He hopes cancer patients using BPJS can be well cared for in Jakarta.
“There is an international hospital that could help address the shortage of cancer patient care, especially for BPJS,” he said.
As background, the alleged corruption case in the purchase of the Sumber Waras Hospital land in West Jakarta first emerged during Ahok’s leadership in 2015. The case began when the Jakarta Financial and Development Supervisory Board (BPK) submitted the 2014 Financial Report of the Jakarta Provincial Government.
In 2025, the KPK said it did not find elements of wrongdoing related to the land purchase for Sumber Waras. The investigation into the case has been halted. “Indeed, the investigation of the matter has been halted because no elements of wrongdoing were found,” KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said when contacted on Monday, 27 October 2025.
Pramono later visited the Sumber Waras site on Monday, 27 October 2025. He explained that the investigation into the land purchase that the KPK had carried out had been completed. He said the Jakarta Provincial Government is ready to proceed with the plan to build the hospital on the 3.6-hectare site. “The investigation status was halted in 2023 by the KPK. There used to be a finding that the NJOP was too high with a Rp 191 billion differential, but now the land value has risen to Rp 1.4 trillion. So it is no longer possible to overturn,” Pramono said.
Most recently, Pramono again stated that the Sumber Waras matter is settled. He said the Sumber Waras site is ready for an international hospital. The hospital’s name, he said, will be announced in due course. He hopes to complete the unfinished business left by the former Jakarta governors.
“Please convey to Mr Ahok, ma’am. I have finished what is called Sumber Waras. What used to be a burden, alhamdulillah, is now all finished,” Pramono said, receiving applause from participants at the Cap Go Meh event in Glodok, on Tuesday, 3 March.
