Pramono: Creative economy sector becomes new economic pillar for Jakarta
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has stated that the creative economy sector is becoming a new economic pillar for Jakarta, in addition to the trade and services sectors. “These three sectors have significant potential to create jobs, attract investment, and enhance Jakarta’s competitiveness at both national and global levels,” Pramono said in Jakarta on Saturday. He affirmed that the Jakarta Provincial Government is accelerating the city’s transformation to join the ranks of the top 50 global cities by 2030. To achieve this target, he noted that economic development will no longer rely solely on trade and services but will also be strengthened through the creative economy, sports and lifestyle sectors, and the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry. “The Jakarta Provincial Government continues to provide support so that all this potential can develop optimally,” Pramono stated. He further revealed that Jakarta’s economic achievements continue to show a positive trend, with the economy growing by 5.59 percent in the first quarter of 2026, contributing 16.67 percent to the national economy. “This data shows that Jakarta’s economic foundation is getting stronger,” he stressed. Pramono assured that the administration is encouraging innovation and digitalisation to ensure that economic growth is felt equally by all citizens. He also highlighted efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of MSMEs through the JakPreneur programme, which focuses on enhancing business capacity, expanding access to financing, broadening market reach, and promoting digitalisation. The aim is to ensure that every MSME actor has an equal opportunity to grow. “With continuous support, Jakarta’s MSMEs are expected to become one of the main drivers of regional and national economic growth,” he added.
