Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has revealed that he is considering a proposal to implement Car Free Day (CFD) twice a week.

Previously, in a media report, Environment Minister Jumhur Hidayat proposed that CFD be held on both Saturdays and Sundays to address air pollution. Jumhur also invited Jakarta to serve as a model for the implementation of such a programme.

Pramono stated that he has read the proposal and considers it quite rational. The suggestion is reportedly being discussed by the Jakarta Provincial Government.

“In fact, the proposal is quite rational, so we have already conducted discussions within City Hall. We will make a decision when the time comes,” Pramlaro said in Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, on Friday (11/9).

Meanwhile, Pramono explained that CFD is now being provided space in every administrative city within Jakarta.

“Because in Jakarta itself, Car Free Day is not only located in Sudirman-Thamrin and Rasuna Said; currently, every city in Jakarta has space to conduct Car Free Day.”

Therefore, he emphasised that the proposal will undergo a consideration process by the Provincial Government before a final decision is reached.

“However, we will certainly consider the proposal and make a decision when the time comes,” he concluded.
