Pramono Confirms Velodrome-Manggarai LRT Ready for Inauguration

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has confirmed that the construction of the Jakarta LRT Velodrome-Manggarai route has entered its final stage and is ready to be inaugurated.

The confirmation was delivered after Pramono directly inspected the project’s readiness together with the Jakarta Provincial Government and the Presidential Palace Protocol on Monday (24/8).

The inspection was carried out as part of the final check before the Jakarta LRT Velodrome-Manggarai route is inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto and begins serving the public fully.

“Overall, for the construction or completion of this LRT, the first aspect relating to the rails and also the elevated track is already 100 percent complete,” said Pramono at Manggarai LRT Station, South Jakarta.

According to Pramono, the stage still ongoing is testing by the central government through the Ministry of Transportation. This testing is an important part before the Jakarta LRT Velodrome-Manggarai route becomes fully operational.

“The final stage now is testing carried out by the central government, in this case the Ministry of Transportation,” he said.

As of today, the physical progress of the Jakarta LRT Velodrome-Manggarai route project has reached 98.20 percent. Once inaugurated, the Jakarta LRT will operate fully from 05.00 to 24.00 Western Indonesia Time.

The Jakarta Provincial Government has proposed 26 August 2026 as the inauguration date, with the timing subject to President Prabowo Subianto’s agenda.

The Velodrome-Manggarai route extends the Jakarta LRT track length to 12.2 kilometres with 11 stations. The travel time from Kelapa Gading to Manggarai is approximately 28 minutes. The project has an investment value of Rp12.1 trillion.

Pramono estimates that passenger numbers in the initial phase of operation will reach 60,000-80,000 people per day. The presence of this route strengthens the LRT’s role as one of the backbones of Jakarta’s public transport.

“Once it is connected from Kelapa Gading to Manggarai, it will be approximately between 60 and 80 thousand passengers in the early stages. Once it is connected, the LRT managed by the Jakarta Provincial Government as a whole will become the main backbone for managing transportation,” he said.

To support the transition period, the LRT fare has been set at a flat rate of Rp5,000 until October 2026, pending the official fare determination together with the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives. The Jakarta Provincial Government is also preparing the possibility of a special fare scheme during the inauguration period.

In addition to fares, accessibility is a concern. As part of the trial run, the Jakarta Provincial Government has involved 15 community groups who received free services. Facilities for boarding and alighting from trains have also been prepared to be more accessible for people with disabilities.

Manggarai LRT Station is also being prepared as a transport integration hub. The service will be connected with Transjakarta, the KRL Commuter Line, and the Airport Rail Link. This integration is expected to strengthen the shift of the public from private vehicles to public transport.

President Director of PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro), Iwan Takwin, said the direct connection process between the LRT and the Manggarai Station area is still ongoing, including the completion of legal aspects relating to land owned by PT KAI. The integration is targeted to be operational in September 2026.

“The integration of these three modes is actually already established, and the direct connection from Manggarai to here is being processed together with KAI. By September it will be completed and can be operated,” said Iwan.

The Ministry of Transportation is also encouraging the strengthening of intermodal integration up to Jakarta’s buffer areas. Director of Railway Safety at the Directorate General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation, Jumardi, said good integration will increase demand for LRT services.

“If Manggarai LRT Station is already integrated with the KRL station and long-distance services there, it will drive demand,” he said.

Jumardi assessed that the number of users at the Manggarai hub has the potential to increase significantly along with the strengthening of integration and first mile-last mile services. In the long term, mobility in the area is estimated to reach 1.8 million passengers per day if integration is carried out optimally.
