Pramono confirms Jakarta's education aid programmes and LPDP scholarship scheme will continue

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has confirmed that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will continue various education assistance programmes whilst preparing the Jakarta Education Fund Management Institution (LPDP), targeted to begin operating in 2027 to broaden access to education for residents from underprivileged families.

“Next year, Jakarta will have an LPDP managed by the DKI Jakarta Government for fortunate children from disadvantaged families. The DKI Jakarta Government will send them to school abroad,” said Pramono during his remarks at the inauguration of functional officials at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday.

He emphasised that education is one of the regional government’s priorities, alongside the health sector and social protection.

Therefore, various education assistance programmes, including the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) Plus and the Jakarta Outstanding Student Card (KJMU), will continue.

Pramono said the number of KJP Plus recipients has now reached more than 707,520 students, whilst KJMU recipients number around 15,900 university students.

“And we will continue this, because I believe that the more children from less fortunate families can pursue education as high as possible, the more they will have hope and the opportunity to become people who can improve their families’ lives,” said Pramono.

The more children who gain the opportunity to pursue higher education, he said, the greater their chances of improving their families’ welfare in the future.

Pramono also expressed hope that the continuation of education assistance programmes, combined with the presence of LPDP Jakarta, will produce more competitive human resources and support Jakarta’s realisation as a global city.

“Hopefully, Jakarta as a global city, an inclusive city, a cultured city that still bears the status of the nation’s capital, will become better, more orderly and more advanced. I truly hope that education in Jakarta will continue to progress,” said Pramono.

As is known, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is currently preparing the establishment of LPDP Jakarta, targeted to begin operating in 2027.

The programme is planned to provide overseas university scholarships to around 50 to 75 students each year with a budget of approximately Rp100 billion, as part of efforts to improve the quality of Jakarta’s human resources.
