Pramono confirms Jakarta's education aid programmes and LPDP scholarship scheme will continue

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has confirmed that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will continue various education assistance programmes while preparing a Jakarta Education Fund Management Institution (LPDP) targeted to begin operations in 2027 to expand access to education for residents from underprivileged families. “Next year, Jakarta will have an LPDP managed by the DKI Jakarta Government for fortunate children from underprivileged families. The DKI Jakarta Government will send them to study abroad,” Pramono said during a speech at a functional official inauguration ceremony at City Hall on Wednesday. He stressed that education is one of the local government’s priorities, alongside the health and social protection sectors. Therefore, various education assistance programmes, including the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) Plus and the Jakarta Superior Student Card (KJMU), will continue. Pramono stated that the number of KJP Plus recipients has now reached more than 707,520 students, while the number of KJMU recipients is around 15,900 university students. “And we will continue it, because I believe that the more children from less fortunate families can pursue the highest possible education, it will give them hope and the opportunity to become people who can improve their family’s lives,” Pramono said. The more children who get the opportunity to pursue higher education, he said, the greater their chances of improving their family’s welfare in the future. Pramono also expressed hope that the continuation of education assistance programmes, coupled with the presence of the Jakarta LPDP, can produce more competitive human resources and support the realisation of Jakarta as a global city. “Hopefully, Jakarta as a global city, an inclusive city, a cultured city and still serving as the nation’s capital, will become better, more orderly and more advanced. I sincerely hope that education in Jakarta will continue to progress,” Pramono said. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is currently preparing the establishment of the Jakarta LPDP, which is targeted to commence in 2027. The programme plans to provide overseas university scholarships for around 50 to 75 students each year with a budget of approximately Rp100 billion as part of efforts to improve the quality of Jakarta’s human resources.
