Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has confirmed that the Jakarta LPDP scholarship programme will still be implemented in 2027.

He made the statement in response to a proposal from the Jakarta DPRD, which had asked for the programme to be postponed and for the budget to be redirected to repairing damaged schools.

He said that repairs to damaged schools will use funds from the building floor coefficient (KLB). Some repairs to damaged schools, he said, will be carried out next month.

“Regarding damaged schools, including SD Negeri 9, 11 and so on, the Jakarta provincial government has decided to take part of the funds from KLB, and I have now decided that construction will begin next month,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (19/8).

Pramono said the funds allocated for repairing damaged schools are larger than what was proposed.

“Thus, the budget for handling damaged schools is even larger than what was proposed. But the LPDP will still be implemented,” he said.

Quoting Antara, Commission E of the Jakarta DPRD had previously asked the Jakarta provincial government to postpone the Jakarta-specific LPDP programme and redirect its budget to education needs deemed more urgent.

Chairman of Commission E of the Jakarta DPRD M Subki assessed that conditions such as repairing damaged schools and increasing the quota of free private schools are more urgent than running the Jakarta LPDP programme.

“If the LPDP is not yet urgent, not yet a priority, we can also look at schools that need it more,” Subki said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Jakarta Education Agency Nahdiana said the Jakarta LPDP programme is an effort to enable children in the capital to pursue education abroad.

Nahdiana also explained that the Jakarta Education Agency has prepared a draft budget of Rp99.9 billion for the Jakarta LPDP programme, which is planned to begin in 2027.
